"Are You Not Entertained?" - The NFL Draft, probably

Round 1 is a wrap. Let's make spicy predictions for Day 2.

The first round of the NFL Draft is officially a wrap, my friends! What. A. Night.

Day 2 of the draft will open up with (my very own favorite team) the Pittsburgh Steelers and plenty of rumors that we could get a trade right out of the gate.

Let’s dive right into the goods ⬇️

First round risers 📈 📈 📈

The Philadelphia Eagles

This dang team, fresh off a trip to the Super Bowl, has the audacity to come into the NFL Draft and somehow snag two of the top defenders this class has to offer? Very rude.

Also, very incredible. Hats off to Howie Roseman for drafting DT Jalen Carter and EDGE Nolan Smith (who fell in the draft for... no reason?). This defensive line is going to be harassing opposing quarterbacks for years to come. Hand them the Lombardi trophy now — there is no point in playing the season.

Philly now has the second-best odds in the NFL to win Super Bowl LVIII at +850 (Bet $10 to win $85 profit).

Falcons QB Desmond Ridder

Remember this girl dad? He’s still girl-dadding. Now he’s starting-quarterbacking… with an absolutely STACKED offense to help him shine. Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Kyle Pitts… Ridder should be foaming at the mouth imagining the possibilities.

There's still a chance the Falcons take a quarterback in this draft (and they probably should), but if this is the surrounding cast Ridder plays with during the 2023 season, Atlanta is certainly giving him his best chance at making it as a pro. Don’t count them out to win the NFC South (+300). I’m just saying.

The fallers 📉 📉 📉

The Detroit Lions

The Lions selected Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs with their first first-round pick, which felt like a huge luxury at a point where they could have addressed a true positional depth need in a major way at cornerback.

Anyway. They followed that pick up with Iowa State linebacker Jack Campbell at No. 18. Though Campbell is certainly regarded as the top linebacker prospect in this class, it felt like a reach for a player that wasn't commonly regarded as a first-round talent in the first place. It was a yikes all around, but the Lions came out and doubled down! 🤯

🔮 Day 2️⃣ spicy predictions 🔮

Several veteran studs are traded.

I predicted three names in Thursday’s Gaming Society Newsletter that we’d see some veterans on the move during this year’s draft: Derrick Henry, DeAndre Hopkins and Dalvin Cook.

Now, for obvious reasons, I’m predicting (nay, guaranteeing), that Lions RB D’Andre Swift doesn’t play a down for the team in 2023.

Tell me you’re trading D’Andre Swift without telling me you’re trading D’Andre Swift, Mr. Holmes.

The Patriots draft a quarterback

Bill Belichick hasn’t exactly kept it a secret that he’s all but ready to move on from 2021 first-round pick, Mac Jones, rumored to have shopped him to teams around this year’s NFL Combine. So, it stands to reason that you’re probably going to want to replace him if he’s on his way out, right?

Both Will Levis and Hendon Hooker — projected first-rounders — remain on the board to open up day two. Why not shoot their shot?
